SO4 will produce SOP by pumping brine from two sources; an extensive surface trench network which draws brine from the lake playa, and a series of boreholes that extract brine from the paleochannel basal sands.
The brine is then pumped into more than 800 hectares of solar evaporation ponds where Sodium Chloride is first precipitated out, followed by potassium rich Kainite and Carnalite salts in the downstream Harvest Cells.
These salts are then harvested and transported a short distance to Process Plant.
Harvest salts are converted into SOP in the processing plant via a simple floatation and re-crystallisation process that forms high grade, ultra low-chloride and highly water soluble Sulphate of Potash (SOP).
Simple proven flowsheet using conventional process steps
